What kind of bicycle is provided? We rent the bicycles from local bicycle shops. The owners are very conscientious about their equipment and over the past five years the worst mechanical problem has been flat tires! The bikes are hybrids, designed for use on pavement, but not "road slicks"! They have upright handlebars for maximum visibility. We find that they are a good quality touring bike.

What about helmets and panniers?

We advise people to bring their own helmets as they are not mandatory in France and the ones available to rent are not up to North American standards! We recommend you take one pannier so you can carry things such as water bottle, camera, and rain gear as required.

What is a picnic pack?

As we shop at the local markets for our picnic lunches we decided to include a small pack that comes with a cutting board, cheese knife and corkscrew as well as serviettes for the quintessential French picnic! (There is space for your cutlery!)

Is there van support when cycling?

We have access to the van at all times, if there is a mechanical breakdown or someone feels they have had enough cycling for the day its just a matter of sitting in the nearest cafe and you will be picked up in as short as time as possible.

If the weather is really poor are there alternative plans?

We find that by having a centre based (farmhouse) holiday, it gives us maximum flexibility. We are then able to accommodate variations in the weather as well as responding to the needs of each particular group. As the group chemistry evolves we are then able to facilitate specific requests and interests.

On the van day may people choose an alternate option?

On that day it is completely up to the individual whether they want to go or not. For example if you want to explore another area we will advise as to the best route and would look forward to sharing stories at the end of the day.

Is smoking allowed in common areas or outdoors?

The accommodation is definitely non-smoking and any smoking would only be allowed at a significant distance out of doors.

What is the background and experience of the guides?

Jack and Shelagh have travelled extensively in these areas of France over the last ten years and have guided twelve tours over the past five years. They are totally besotted with France and enjoy introducing others to this amazing country. Jack is a French teacher and Shelagh has a degree in European history. Shelagh owns The Traveller’s Tale, “the best little travel store on the island”. As you can imagine, in France they are in their element!
